The Protege 9.0 tracks such details as current speed, comparative speed, ride time, trip distance, average speed, and maximum speed, while also offering a dual odometer (for two wheel sizes), a clock, and a thermometer. Riders can easily switch follow all the data points thanks to the four-line MacroMonitor LCD display, which shows up to five pieces of data at a glance. Finally, the computer is remarkably lightweight at 0.12 pounds, so it won't slow you down on the track or the trail. Other details include a magnet that fits up to 4 mm bladed spokes, an 82 cm wire mounting kit for the front wheel, and a 1.57-by-1.85-inch case. 3 Stars Great computer after you get it working This is a great little computer after you get it working. I purchased one last year; it worked for a little while, then stopped. I called/e-mailed Planet Bike and after I got on them for a while they sent me a new one. Installing the new one was a real pain- it was hard to get the magnet and the sensor close enough together to work without having them rub. Finally figured it out (again)- hopefully it will work this time! On the plus side, after installation, the computer has an easy to read display; displays all the information you need (no need to toggle between screens). The thermometer is a great feature and its nice that it is wireless. My only concern is that bumps etc. will move the sensor causing it not to read- I would like to find a more secure way to keep the sensor in place rather than the ties they give you- I think that may have been the downfall of the last one.

2 Stars worked well for a while, and then it got hot and humid I used this cyclocomputer through the spring, with great success. but as soon as the weather turned hotter, and more humid. the thing was awful. it resets itself all the time, even when i simply detach it from the handlebar mount. I have reset it more often over the last 4 weeks, than i have used it. sometimes, I have to reset it 3 or 4 times before i give up and go without. I am going to go back to the cateye's. i hope it works better.

5 Stars Planet Bike Wireless COmputer Got the Planet Bike Wireless Computer to replaced an old Cateye Wired unit. Looked at everything I could find, Cateye to Garmin. I decided that cheaper with all the functions I wanted was the best way to go for now. Wanted the Garmin, but still to many bad reviews for that amount of money. The computer was simple to install, mount the sensor on the front fork, attach the magnet on the spoke, mount the computer to handle bars and you are almost ready to go. The sensor has a rubber pad and 2 tiewraps to hold it in place. It's a street bike and not a mountain so I not concerned about using their tiewraps. The magnet is simple enough to line up, but the instruction could have been shown a better picture (I had to move it once to get the correct spot). The handle bar mounting works much like their lights, add the rubber spacers and your done. The computer adjustment for tire size, time, etc. is done with the little buttons and steel ball on the back on the unit. I did mine before putting it in the holder. Again the instructions didn't seem to clear about pressing the little steel ball, but once I figured that out it was simple. You can use it on two bikes. They say to press hard to pop it out of the mount. I didn't want to remove it, but pressed hard just see and it didn't move. So it's not going to fall out of the mount! The sensor and computer use the same battery, they say are good for 6 months or more. The computer falls into a sleep mode after nonuse. You press forward on the computer to change screens and see the additonal info. The main screen digits are good size, you get MPH, Riding Time, Trip Distance, Clock and Temp. Elite was out of stock after I ordered and had to call them to finally get an answer. They offered a Cateye unit if I didn't want to wait, but I had seen the unit and thought the Planet Bike had a better display. I was right, glad I waited, the price went up $20 after I got mine.

4 Stars great product. easy install – easy to use My only complaint is that the display had a ding in the screen when it was delivered, so I should have returned it but was too impatient to wait for another delivery so I kept it. No regrets it still works great.

1 Star Awful Product A terrible product. Poor instructions, with even poorer illustrations. Sensor and magnet don't work well together–sometimes it registers movement, sometimes not. Computer mode/set functions faulty. Avoid it at all costs.

Protege 5.0 is a eat little computer. Took me like 15 minutes to install, I had plenty of cord from the sensor to the unit, and it works just as described. Nice little size but easy to read. So far its been totally weatherproof too.

I recommend this bike computer for anyone interested.

5 Stars 71+ Old man loves this gadget!
Just got back on a bike since 1951. Bought this amazing cyclocomputer to keep daily record of travel. It is TERRIFIC!! Took about 30 minutes to get it installed to my satisfaction, however think the instruction book has made an error. States that it needs to be “1-2cm” apart. No way! My first rotation of the front tire started registering everything and the distance is at least 3/8″in apart. Everything very easy to view, goes to sleep after 5 minutes of inactivity but wakes right up on the 1st turn of the front tire. Am just a recretional rider and this one will last me to the “last ride”. VERY satisfied w/this purchase.

5 Stars Problem-free installation and performance
I’ve had this model in use for about five weeks. Installation was very easy; to set the circumference, I used a GPS and altered the setting until the two units matched speeds. It’s really convenient to have all the info I want with one glance, and the display is crisp and easy to read.

I haven’t experienced any of the problems noted in other Planet Bike computer reviews; my unit ‘remembers’ the trip data indefinitely, and it takes fairly deliberate action to reset the data. Perhaps the units others complained about were touchier than mine. The display doesn’t darken in direct sunlight, but the weather is still fairly cool here in the Chicago suburbs. We’ll see how it acts in hotter weather. The screen will darken for 10 to 20 seconds if I wipe the face with a finger. I have not tried the unit in the rain yet.

I wasn’t thrilled to find that the speed reads out in 1/2 mph increments, instead of tenths, which I was used to on my Cateye. Otherwise, I’m very satisfied with it.

This item was purchased as a gift. Intallation was easy and it has performed as expected ( no problems). It gives all the information needed and seems to be very accurate. I can’t imagine a better bang for the buck.

Size is larger than its predecessor, but it works fine. Was concerned about installation, which can be touchy, but it went well. Has not needed adjusting in several months use. Aggregates until you reset it, so if you want individual ride statistics, you must remember to reset it at the beginning.

The display on this computer is large and easy to read with most of the data on display at the same time. If you are looking for a low cost bike computer with lots of functions this one is working well for me.

This bike computer has worked out great for me. Installation took only a few minutes. One installation note is that the sensor mounts to the front fork, but not directly facing the spokes. On my bike, it is angled back about 45 degrees towards the spokes, which places it the correct distance from the magnet. I used a little blue locktite to secure the magnet. Initial setup of the wheel size, etc., takes a little patience, but I was riding within a few minutes. Now that the weather’s getting colder, I’m thinking I should have considered the 9.0 model with the temperature sensor, but I’m very happy with this one. It’s a great feature that it slips out of it’s holder and can be stored inside out of the weather.

1 Star No good to me on the ground!
This computer has a nice display, lots of functions, and an easy interface. Setup is moderately good, not as easy a system from sigma. But, hit a pothole in the road, and this thing literally jumps off the bike due to a poor handlebar clip design. Requires duct tape for permanent installation. Overall, no good if it can’t handle the ride.

I really like this piece of equipment. Everything is laid out nicely and switching modes is a piece of cake, just a push up on it. I haven’t had problems with it falling off like others to be honest. I wish it came in black. My only gripe were the instructions. They said to put the fork sensor on the rear of the forks but i wasnt getting a reading at all. I had to turn it to the inside of the fork which made the magnet line up perfect. Don’t go by the picture. Awesome fast shipping by amazon too! Woulda bought the protege 9 i guess if i wanted a temp gauge but that wasn’t necessary.

This product is great! I’ve been using it for a while and the simplicity of clicking the computer forward to view the different modes is ingenious. After all, you can’t be messing with buttons when your riding at 18-30 mph. The numbers are big, so its very easy to see the information. Overall, I am very happy with this item.

So far, this is an outstanding product from an outstanding company. I have several of their products and Bike Planet really knows what they are doing. This computer is fairly small for being wireless and it installs quite easily. I have been using it rigorously and I have had no problems with it as of yet. As far as the issue when it shuts off because of rain, I have not encountered that. Overall, I love this product and would hands down recommend it to anyone looking for a wireless cycling computer.

5 Stars Exceeds Expectations
This is a great computer, much better than my old Cateye. It was easy to install and calibrate. The directions were clear and setup took about 20 minutes. I have a 29′er mtb so I used the wheel roll-out method to calibrate the computer. I love having a wireless computer. It looks great, much cleaner, and it works beautifully. I’ve not had any problems. Plus, the 4-line display is easy to read and helpful. I like being able to see a lot of data with just a glance. And the thermometer is a great idea. Mine is accurate.

I spent a lot of time studying bike computers before this purchase – to the point where I was driving my wife crazy. She was glad when I finally settled on the wireless Protege 9.0 because she wouldn’t hear the running dialogue any longer and I’m glad I chose this Planet Bike product because it works well. I’m becoming a believer in Planet Bike products, so I also bought a saddle and flashing light called the Superflash. I bought the men’s 5020 split seat saddle and have found it to be much more comfy than the small Bontrager seat that came with the bike (a Gary Fisher 29′er). Keep up the good work Planet Bike!

1 Star OK for fair weather cyclest
If your a fair weather cyclist this computer is OK. But if you bike in the winter it’s a total P.O.S. The computer will not work below 40 degrees F. Which is very annoying. The 4 line display is nice but when the temperature display reads about 40 degrees the computer becomes totally useless.

This bike computer works as described. It was very easy to install and use at the same time. 3-modes to choose from, to switch modes, simply click the computer by sliding it forward on the station. MPH, Temp., clock, ODOM., etc. all seems to be working just fine. I gave it a four star because my bike has smaller handle bars than the docking station, so I had to install on the column (mid-section that holds the handle bars to the bike frame) of the handle bar instead AND i will need to make some adjustments to get it to fit on the handle bar. *****MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE MAGNET ABOUT HALF WAY IN BETWEEN THE MODULE READER, ALSO THE TWO DEVICES NEED TO BE VERY CLOSE TOGETHER*** IF YOU DO IT RIGHT THE COMPUTER SHOULD FLASH RIGHT AWAY!@
