5 Stars Sigma BC1606L with rear wheel harness I just bought this item. It includes two harnesses. One for the front wheel and one for the rear wheel. It also includes the optional wired sensor to measure cadence and of course the bike computer itself. I am please with the unit so far and I installed it on the rear wheel of my bike that is on a Kurt Kenetic trainer. It works well for both speed and cadence. Now I can judge the kind of effort I am using and can up my game as time goes on. The only problem was that the install instructions leave a lot to be desired. I figured it out but it took about an hour for the install. The package also does not come with a list of items included in the box either which was a little frustrating. These were not really big problems but Sigma should address them for the future. I recommend this unit to anybody who wants a bike computer with a wire rear wheel sensor.

5 Stars Works Great! We've had this a few weeks. I purchased for my wife's bike so she could use it with the indoor trainer. This was one of the cheapest ones I could find that would work for the rear wheel. It also has the cadence monitor. Pretty easy to understand, not too difficult to set-up. It has a back-light on it, so once you press a button it will light up for a few seconds. Probably could have used a couple more zip-ties with it, but I had some.

The BC 1106 with its diversity of functions is the right choice for the athletically ambitious biker. The integrated storage chip prevents loss of pre-settings and total values during power losses or even battery changes, with low power scenarios announced in due time by the low battery indicator. Two wheel size settings are possible, which can be recognized automatically with an optional Bike 2 Sensor, allowing riders to use their BC 1106 interchangeably between any combination of two bicycles.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Sigma Sport BC1106 Wired Cycle
Hi All,

I did not receive the 2nd bike kit as noted in the product info. I had forgoten about it when I received the Sigma BC1106 till it was mentioned in the survey. The Sigme 1106 works great, does what I wanted and appears accurate. I would expect the company will acknowledge this omission.

art

5 Stars Does everything it is supposed to…..
That’s it, you need to read the fairly straightforward manual and install it correctly, but the bang for the buck here is teriffic. The wire is unobtrusive and I guess that the “unwired” version would have two batteries; one in the sending unit that seems to me would take more power and maybe go out quicker. My guess only.

If you have a bike path with mileage markers you can tweak the unit to your bike by changing the wheel size that you input in it, making it very accurate.

I find its more fun to know your speed, distance, average speed, etc., it gives you something to shoot for on your next ride. Plus it weighs about nothing; you could wear thinner socks and make up for it.

Have fun.

5 Stars several useful enhancements for a computer with basic functions
I recently bought one of these and now plan to buy another.

One thing I did not realize when I bought this computer is that it requires no tools to install, which is a nice feature. (Only if you want to mount it on the stem instead of the handlebar do you need a small Phillips.)

The real reason I bought it was my perpetual annoyance with every other computer I ever owned that changing the battery loses ALL data, e.g., mileage totals, wheel circumference, etc. This one promises to save all of that upon battery change, and I hope it does.

The wheel circumference chart in the little manual was quite accurate for me. On my first ride it showed 22.6 miles. I then plotted the route on Google Maps and got 22.3, so all I have to do is tweak it down a tiny bit.

Display is large with good contrast, and I had no problem reading it with my polarizing sunglasses, an issue I had with other computers. Beyond that, the basic functions are the basic functions.

5 Stars Great!!! make sure you know your whell size
This is a very good product and I have found it very usefull and accurate. This is what I think of it:

1. It was very easy to install and adjust. (Note you do not have to

place the reciever any were special on the fork, since it counts the

time it takes the wheel to rotate a revolution.)

2. The features are relevant and intuitive making it easy and simple to

check different things on it while riding.

3. It looks great and on my black and gray bike, you can hardly see

it!!!

Their is on I would like to explain on this though. After reading through the instructions carefully, (it wasn’t that hard) I realized that the wheel size that you had to put in it was the circumference of the outermost part of the wheel in centimeters (it is made in Germany). Meaning that for my fat mountain tire the size was 2,073, unlike my friend who had his at 2,600 (for a 26″ tire) meaning that he was going 25% faster than he actually was. So make sure measure correctly measure it.

5 Stars Cool little bike computer, Installation can be tricky.
This was my first bike computer and I’m happy with my choice. It does everything it’s designed to do quite well. There is a little bit of a learning curve as far as navigating through its options/functions but once you get it there no issue at all.

Installation was a little more involved then I thought it would be and I am very mechanically inclined. Nothing your average DIY’r can’t handle just some interesting things to deal with like placement of the magnet and dealing with, for my install anyway, an overly long sensor wire. You have to get a little creative to keep the wire secured and out of the way of moving parts.

The first mount/sensor wire assembly that I received with the computer was faulty. After much remounting and head scratching I called the US contact for Sigma. He was very helpful and told me that while every computer is tested for operation the mount and wire assembly are not. He sent out a replacement mount/wire (at no cost) and once I swapped it out the computer worked perfectly. I don’t I think I broke the wire on the first one as I was extremely careful with the installation but just in case, be careful as it is a small wire and you have to make several turns and twists to get installed.

The manual is one of those international mutli-language picture books. I hate them but if you spend some time deciphering it before you start you can get it done. As one of the other reviewers stated, getting you tire size right is critical to the accuracy of the computer. So spend a few extra minutes here and actually measure the circumference. Using the chart in the manual will get you close but not exact.

Once installed the combination of the double sided tape and rubber ring used to mount the computer to the stem or handlebars is actually quite secure. I have no fear of it coming off in normal use. A rubber ring is also used to mount the wheel magnet sensor to the fork. No tape is used here, probably to allow easier adjusting but doesn’t feel quite as secure because of this. I’ve had no problem but now that I have it positioned properly I may add some d/s tape or a wire tie to lock it in place. The spoke magnet locks on very securely but follow the instructions closely on this part.

I really like this product and the customer service was excellent. If it was stolen or lost I would by another immediately. Have fun with it.

The BC 1706 HR with DTS is the perfect solution for all fitness-oriented cyclists. In addition to the trusted BC 1606L DTS bike and time functions the BC 1706 HR also measures heart rate. The current, maximum and average heart rate are measured as precisely as an ECG for precise training control. Both the speed and heart rate are coded and transferred to the BC by radio waves (digital and coded). All bike, time and heart rate values are easily and clearly read from the 3-line display. Low battery indicator – on-time battery change reminder. Integrated storage chip – pre-settings and total values are retained during battery change. Active mode without total values – total values faded while riding to enable better focusing on the necessary functions. Bike 2 Sensor – total values faded while riding to enable better focusing on the necessary functions. Backlight – optimal readability even after nightfall. Water resistant.

5 Stars Nice little device for a novice user.
This is the first bike computer I ever bought or used. The instructions are not the best. There are a lot of illustrations (pictures), but no worded instructions on the physical installation. It lacked specific details, but the pictures were pretty much self explanatory, so it wasn’t too bad. Then I followed the setup instructions, which were much better (worded instructions w/pictures). I noticed the display was acting a little “whacky”, and the backlight didn’t work. The characters would be jumbled up when switching modes. After a while of this, I found it to be a weak battery. I changed the battery and everything worked like a charm! It has a lot of functions, and so far they all seem very accurate. Nice little device!

4 Stars SIGMA BC506 5-Function Wired Bike Speedometer
I just recently purchased the meter and put it on my motorized bike. Some of the meters that I looked at had too many functions or too many that I wasn’t interested in. Five is manageable. I’m mainly interested in the time of day, speed, trip and total miles. I mounted it very close to the center of my handlebars so that I could look at it with little head or eye movement. The type font is large enough for me to see easily. Probably the only negative comment that I have is that the instructions weren’t easy to understand. I like easy because I don’t want to spend a lot of time figuring it out.

5 Stars Beautiful simplicity
Very easy to install and set for wheel size. The reset function is wonderful. Taking the works off for security is a simple twist and it is off. Have not checked it against the odometer in my car but I think it is very accurate. I use it in the auto mode which cycles through the five displays and this suits me best. A great product for the money if you have no need for more functions. The instructions were, again, simple and easily understood by me; not the brightest bulb on the tree for dealing with technology. I don’t know how it will hold up in the long haul because I have not had it long. Also can’t speak for weather resistance and saw no claim for that anyplace on the web.

5 Stars works great
Once you get by the confusing instructions, you have a item that does what it says it does. The 42mm band did break the first day, but you can easily replace it with a rubber band.

5 Stars Cyclometer just what I wanted
I am please with this meter. It is easy to use. (I bought a different model first and sent back as too difficult to work) I am happy with the item and the customer service.

1 Star Died after 3 rides
My Sigma BC 506 inexplicably died in the middle of riding through Central Park NYC. It was the third ride I had used it on. The computer still functioned but it behaved as though the bike was not moving. At home I detached the sensor from the frame and it would intermittently give false readings (like 127 mph) which makes me think that the cable went bad. I installed it as per the instructions and the cable did not at any point experience any unusual amount of strain. Very shoddy construction.

Beyond that, is it so difficult to have two buttons instead of one? It would make using it much more intuitive and would add a trivial amount to the cost of production.

The BC 1606L provides a better overview of the essential information during a ride by hiding the total accumulated functions and cadence if not installed. The backlight gives optimal readability of this information even in the dark. An integrated storage chip prevents the loss of set values during battery change as features such trip section counter, timer, and second wheel size are programmable.
4 Stars REAL NICE!
i did some research befor buying just any computer. i have a Specialized Hardrock Comp Disc mountain bike. it has a heavy duty frame thats made of thick squared tubing. because of this it was alittle hard to insatll the magnets and have them read properly due to the distance, they need to be pretty close. but im a clever dude and rigged it up perfect. not sure if the MPH is accurate yet but i will have that tested soon also. they cadence feature is cool too. it measures your pedal RPM, for some its worth having for road use but off road its just another extra sometimes used. so, the degree of difficulty of self install was the only reason i gave this product a 4 which is more like a 4.5 out of 5. well worth the money. buy it and have a pro install it if you can and tell them you got it as a gift. they get all testy when you dont buy there over priced models

3 Stars Good Value
The only thing I have to compare this to is a cheapy $8 one I had from Kmart many years ago. This Sigma 1606L has many more features including cadence which I use often. The data it collects per trip ( average speed, average cadence, max speed, trip time, trip distance) is saved so I can transfer it to a spreadsheet to track how I’m doing. It’s easy to remove from it’s base using a bayonet style attachment, which I have placed on the handlebar stem. I was not impressed when I saw how the parts mount to the bike, thin rubber O-rings loop around sensor and fork, or baseplate and stem to stay in place, but after 1000 miles on streets and bike paths everything has held together. It always shows current speed plus any other selected single feature, like cadence or time.

Why only 3 stars?

1) Lacks a scan feature, so I must push a button repeatedly to get to view the function I want. An auto scan feature would allow me to keep my hands on the grips where they belong.

2) The wiring is somewhat flimsy. Small gauge wire is subject to breaking if put under any stress.

3) Speed readout shows only the closest half mile interval, doesn’t show tenths. For example, it reads either 12.0 MPH or 12.5 MPH missing 12.1, 12.2,etc.

I am actually very happy with this nicely designed and low cost unit. Mine came with a second mounting for a second bike, data for which it tracks separately. After 8 months of use over many miles, it has served me well.

5 Stars Been using sigma for 7+ years…
I’ve used the Sigma 1600L and its predecessor the 1600. Sigma makes a great computer in the 1600 series. They keep track of two bikes wheels (thus two bikes) as well as two odometers and a combined odometer. Its great if you have two bikes because all you need is an extra mount and you are set. the cadence feature is an easy add-on, and not available in most computers at this prices. It has all the regular stuff… like actual and average speed, trip computers, etc.

5 Stars Great Unit!!!!!!!
I not only use this on my bicycle but adapted it to my motorcycle! Yep- it works great for that too! Easy to use, reliable, easy to read, easy to install. I would recommend it to anyone.

4 Stars Good Value, Easy to Use
Like the product…easy to read screen. Easy to go through the different functions. Easy to install.

Light works well but I wish it stayed on longer…(only for 3 seconds I believe). The buttons aren’t labeled at all so you have to get use to what button works for what.

5 Stars Works Great!
We’ve had this a few weeks. I purchased for my wife’s bike so she could use it with the indoor trainer.

5 Stars Sigma BC1606L with rear wheel harness
I just bought this item.

5 Stars Very dependable and accurate
I purchased the Sigma Bc906 because the Bell unit that i had installed

was very erratic. After mounting the Sigma to my motorized bike it was

very accurate and dependable. I tested it by riding towards a roadside

radar display, and the Sigma matched the speed shown on the radar display.

I did have to reprogram the wheel dimensions twice, but after that it was

right on the money! Can’t beat it

Fred G

4 Stars Great German Quality
This is my 3rd Sigma and Ive only had great experience with their cyclocomputers. Easy to install within 30 minutes and option to have on stem or bar. Chose the stem like many of the pros. No tools are needed just elastic bands and a plastic tie for the wire down the fork. Easy to read and the buttons are very easy to access. Readouts seem accurate and the arrow up or down to show you where you are on the average speed is great.

Only gripe is when to reset for another ride you need to reset each reading (trip time, average speed, fastest speed…) in my past sigmas, I reset the trip time and it reset all the other readings.

5 Stars Excellent tool for the money
I have had this item for about 3 years now, and can say I am fully satisfied. I was looking for an inexpensive (less than $30) cycling computer, needed something that could tell me time, speed, trip distance, average speed… and found this beauty.

You won’t be disappointed with this cycling computer!

1 Star Sigma BC 906 Bike Computer
Sorry, I cannot agree w/ the reviews. I am returning this bike computer.

Reason: This computer has cancelled out the trip distance every single time. Not once have I seen the milage biked. The distance biked jumped to 35 miles after a brief stop when I had biked only abt 11 miles. The O-rings attaching the bike computer to the handle bars are pathetic to put it mildly. If they break, the computer probably will hit the pavement.

Not recommended.

3 Stars Track car speedo
I have a small track car (Lotus 7) that does not have a working speedometer. The transmission itself does not have an exit port for the cable. The Sigma speedo was epoxied in place, the cable was lengthened and now it is ready to be used.SIGMA BC906 9-Function Topline Wired Bicycle Speedometer

Sigma Sport’s BC 1606L Wireless Computer with Cadence is the top model for riders who demand precision from each turn of the crank. This version of the BC 1606L DTS wireless succeeds in this not only by providing a better overview of the essential information during a ride by hiding the total accumulated functions in lieu of specific data points, but through its backlit readout that delivers optimal readability of information even in the dark. In addition, an integrated storage chip prevents the loss of set values during battery change as features such trip section counter, timer, and second wheel size are programmable. The set is equipped with a digital radio sensor with the receiver integrated into the bike computer. But the thing that sets this unit apart is the simultaneous transmission of speed data from the front wheel and cadence data from the turning on the cranks. Comparing these two the handlebar mounted computer is able to output more accurate data that is crucial to the training schedule of serious riders.

  Digital Transmission System (DTS) Explained
With 2-channel radio transmission (km/h and pedal frequency) and 100% digital encoding without data loss, the DTS system guarantees 100% data security of current speed and pedal frequency values during wireless reception. It does this by calculating all relevant data, encoding it and transmitting it in data packets to the integrated receiver in the bike computer. Disturbances such as power lines or mobile phones are no longer a problem as transmission is carried out over the so-called low frequency. A double security system also ensures that only the data packets from your own transmitter are evaluated by the receiver. This means that group rides are no problem.

1 Star Great Design, But Performance is Challenging
I bought this based upon bike store recommendation after having 3 Cateye’s fail in the past 3 years. Installation was very easy once I figured it out (the manual is only marginally helpful). I really like the display – very easy to read for those of us over 40. The O’rings do not hold the speed and cadence sensors very secure – they tend to move out of alignment while going over bumps. I trashed the cadence sensor when it slipped into the spokes after going over a bump during a ride. The speed sensor periodically cuts out, then restarts after a minute or 2. Overall, I am dissapointed.

1 Star The bad reviews are true
Well, you get what you pay for.

After reading the reviews and seeing how this is supposed to be mounted I made extra sure to get an industrial strength double sided tape and mounted the unit.

It lasted 3 rides, then I hit a bump and the unit flew of my bike, after it hit my spokes.

Do not purchase this product.

1 Star Invest in something better – this doesn’t last!
I was looking for a wireless computer with cadence, an easy to read display and easy to use while riding. This did pretty well at first. I got “blank outs” on speed and distance every few miles, but they didn’t last more than a minute or so. The computer then “guesses” at the distance missed and your distance suddenly increases. This adds up over time to an inaccurate reading on a long ride. I was slightly irritated with this quality, but lived with it. Now 7 months after I got it, it’s got a mind of it’s own. It works perfectly for a while, and then can’t find the speed or distance (but can do cadence!) So on a 20 mile ride I’ll come home with it reading 4.8 miles. (Yes, I’ve replaced the batteries, no change.) The odometer reads 35,182 (that happened after I passed the 1,000 mile mark). It’s so irritating and frustrating now, that I just use it as a clock and will be looking for a longer lasting replacement. You get what you pay for. Invest wisely.

3 Stars Problems getting started! Save $ and aggro and go with a Cat Eye
I purchased this computer despite the negative reviews and got bit. Installation is relatively simple for anyone who can change a battery, but the instructions are horrific, diagrams only and very unorganized. Installed the cadence transmitter, speed / spoke magnet and computer in a few minutes, but I had difficulty getting the speed sensor to align on my Cinelli’s ovalized fork and the magnet to stay secure on my bladed spokes. It just never appeared to sit well on the fork, so I used double sided foam tape and heavier zip ties than those provided and epoxyed the magnet to the spoke.

I experienced the same “battery” issues (2 DOA) and installed 4 fresh batteries so I wouldn’t have to mess with it later. I also had a real problem with a defective speed sensor, which necessitated a return. The customer service rep was friendly, helpful, recognized that the manual s&%$ed and sent anew sensor and revised(?) manual diagram for the speed sensor install within 2 days. I guess you get what you pay for! Thoma59

5 Stars Just Great
For the price is amazing !!! Work excelent. About the moutain system shoud be better. But in overall work fantastic.

User Ratings and Reviews

1 Star The sigma bicycle computer is a REAL PICE OF JUNK
I used this imitation of bicycle computer for a little more than a month with terrible results it just never work, I really do not have words to describe this nusty mistake I made buying it. I finally replace it with a real computer that cost me about $25.00 dollars a cateye by the way this nusty product (the sigma) cost me $120.00 dollars sorry I do no give it not even a star. it end at trash can.

1 Star JUNK!
The other reviews are pretty much true, one obviously works for Sigma. This ‘Computer’ is junk. Just to add, I’ve used this for 3 months. I wanted it for its heart rate monitor and altimeter readings. The HRM that you strap on has the battery compartment opening against the skin, so when you sweat it stops working and has to be dried out- so half way through my ride I get no heart readout. The altimeter just gives you the current altitude, it doesn’t tell you what your degree of climb is! Why not- it has the information in the ‘computer’ but can’t calculate the degree of the hill I’m on? Don’t waste your money, I won’t get burned by Sigma again.

Now I’m using my Nokia E66 handy with GPS, at least I can upload my ride and review my stats online.

1 Star waste of time and money
terrible instructions and a bad install setup – do you really want to be driving a set screw into your spoke? then i never could get the transmitter and head unit to sync. the main brands are so much easier to get working why bother?

1 Star Sigma wireless speedometer with Heart Rate Monitor
I thought this product was a good fit for my needs – an inexpensive wireless heartrate/speedometer. As it turns out, the directions for setting the unit were very difficult to follow and then the heart rate monitor stopped working within one week. now the battery is running low after about a month. I would have been much better off spending a few extra dollars up front to avoid the frustration and battery costs, not to mention that i now have a unit that doesn’t function as a heartrate monitor. very disappointing. the upside is you get to learn from my mistake rather than making it for yourself.

1 Star locks up and stops registering
If you stop to talk to friends this bike computer will lock up and get in a state that no longer registers speed. The only way to reset it is to take it out of the mount and put it back in, not very safe when you’re trying to ride along. The rubber band mounts did not fill me with confidence and I came back to my garage one day to find the sensor on the ground. good job that didn’t happen on a ride. The provided bands are not big enough to go around mtb suspension forks. Try a VDO MC1.0 Wired Cycle Computer instead it’s much better (but no Heart Rate Monitor).
