Rugged, lightweight Edge attaches easily to the stem or handlebars of your bike with the included bike mount. Just turn it on, acquire GPS satellites and go. Edge 305 automatically measures your speed, distance, time, calories burned, altitude, climb and descent, and records this data for your review. For extra-precise climb and descent data, Edge 305 also incorporates a barometric altimeter to pinpoint changes in elevation

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Garmin 305 GPS Bundle (305, HRM & Cadence)
Fantastic device. My first cyclocomputer with GPS and I couldn’t be happier. I’m a roadie, but this unit is transferable btw bikes, could in a pinch be used in a vehicle (but doesn’t include maps real-time).

Pros: Customizable screens, configurable for user’s training profiles, Garmin reputation, friend’s recommendations, GPS accuracy and web integration.

Cons: None so far, I’ve had it for a month and battery life is quite good, even when paired with the HRM and Cadence sensors.

5 Stars Great Product
The Garmin Edge 305 provides excellent value at today’s Amazon prices. Software installation on MAC was quick and easy. It sometimes times out after connecting to USB not transferring the new ride data, but a manual Data Transfer achieves the same result. The Training software could feature better Garmin maps and longterm ride statistic features. I am sure online platforms provide this but I had no time to look into it. Adjusting the cadence sensor was a bit of a problem and required some improvised shims on my crankset to meet the <5mm spec for the sensor to work, but it was not a real obstacle. A 2nd flexible arm for the cadence sensor would allow for more adjustability. All in all a stabile product with no cinks.

4 Stars New to Cycling Computers
I took this out of the box and mounted it to my bicycle using the easy to follow directions. I did not know what to expect at the time but now don’t go anywhere without it! The information it provides is great and has helped me to improve my rides and hikes. It easily connects to the computer and downloads automatically into Garmin Training Center. I also upload the files to Motionbased.com where it is automatically plotted on Google maps that you can email to friends. I haven’t had problems with the battery yet but know that charging shortens the life of any battery. The longest hike I’ve taken using this is 5.5 hours. I have only had one problem with this unit and it happened when I loaded a course from Garmin Training Center to be used with virtual trainer. When I went to upload my information to the computer it would not work. Garmin support was not very helpful. I had to search Google for a solution, the problem was a corrupt course download, once removed everything worked fine.

4 Stars Garmin Edge 305 – very nice package, shame about speed readings
I bought the Edge 305 as I wanted to be able to co-ordinate information about my rides in a more deliberate fashion. I really like the idea of tracking my rides with GPS, getting an accurate reading on elevation and grade both after the ride and real time through the barometric altimeter while being able to capture HR and speed/cadence information. Sounds like all the information you’d need in a single device.

By and large this is pretty much what you get. I’ve already benefited from understanding how HR changes as a function of elevation, grade and speed on some local climbs. I also like the way that you can customize two screens of real time data as you ride – I like to see HR, cadence, speed, %grade, ride time and also lap time and distance on my “home” screen. I put time of day, total miles, average speed, total elevation and calories on the second screen. All easy to do and works as advertised.

Interface with Motion Based and Garmin Training Center seem pretty easy and they both provide useful graphical ways to interrogate your data post-ride.

Now for the con’s. For me the big one is speed readout. Despite having a wheel mounted magnet and speed sensor, it turns out that the Edge actually acquires speed data from GPS as first default. What’s so bad about that? Well, I’ve found when I ride on tree covered roads, my speed will appear to fluctuate quite substantially (+/- 1 to 2mph) despite a constant effort. After coming from a wired cycling computer previously I felt this a step backwards. It turns out that you can disable GPS speed, but only by switching off GPS entirely – not quite what I had in mind. The second small wrinkle is that I have had some quite stupendous grade readouts, mostly in similar conditions. Climbing up Old La Honda and Tunitas Creek Rd on the SF peninsula, I apparently was climbing grades of >20% a few times, clearly a GPS error.

Despite these niggles, I’m happy with the unit and intend to stick with it. I’m getting valuable training information, which is why I bought it in the first place. If I decide I need more accurate speed readings real time, I might yet get a cheap wireless computer to mount next to the Edge. Garmin Edge 305 Bicycle GPS Navigator with Heart Rate Monitor and Speed/Cadence Sensor (Factory Refurbished)

5 Stars Garmin Edge 305 is the shiz nit!
This thing is great! I’ve used heart rate monitors before but I was limited to using them on one bike if I wanted to get my speed as well. With this unit having GPS, I can use it on all my bikes, in the car, on my motorcycles, anywhere. I even use this as a lap timer for my street motorcycles when I go to the track. The interface is simple and the fitness software is a no-brainer, even for me.

4 Stars I’m happy with RS800 but very disappointed with Watchsavings!
I’m happy with RS800 but very disappointed with Watchsavings – the amazon’s partner.

I live in Brazil and I’ve received my order at a friend’s address in USA. He took it to me and I have a problem: I bought a “1 of Polar RS800G3 Bundle ( Includes S3 Stride Sensor), G3 GPS Sensor, Free IRDA” (order # 104-7005327-9628241) and the S3 Stride does not came in the box. I’ve just received the RS800, the GPS Sensor and the IRDA. I need to know what happened. I sent an e-mail to Watchsavings 2 weeks ago and they didn’t answered me. I’m waiting an answer from AMAZON.COM. Tks, HUGO

2 Stars Too complicated, and no English quickstart instructions
Bought for my wife’s birthday. She’s very technical (has MBA and MS/CS degrees), and as an endurance athlete she’s become very familiar with Polar and Garmin HRMs and GPS devices over the years – has a Garmin 305, an eTrex Vista, a Brunton GPS, etc.

Well, this device stumped her – she worked with it for an hour and couldn’t get the GPS part to sync with the display … maybe because the quickstart instructions were all in French?

She worked through all the menus and decided that even if she *could* get the thing to function, it was going to be unworkable while riding. And, as delivered it doesn’t have everything it needs for connecting to a computer (that’s optional). So, we returned it.

5 Stars polar 800
Great product. Too bad there is no real marketing to get it out to the public. This is a great training product that can be introduced to the teenagers early on to give them a better training awarness. The transaction went smooth and I was very pleased with the way Amazon brought this together.
