Rugged, lightweight Edge attaches easily to the stem or handlebars of your bike with the included bike mount. Just turn it on, acquire GPS satellites and go. Edge 305 automatically measures your speed, distance, time, calories burned, altitude, climb and descent, and records this data for your review. For extra-precise climb and descent data, Edge 305 also incorporates a barometric altimeter to pinpoint changes in elevation

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Garmin 305 GPS Bundle (305, HRM & Cadence)
Fantastic device. My first cyclocomputer with GPS and I couldn’t be happier. I’m a roadie, but this unit is transferable btw bikes, could in a pinch be used in a vehicle (but doesn’t include maps real-time).

Pros: Customizable screens, configurable for user’s training profiles, Garmin reputation, friend’s recommendations, GPS accuracy and web integration.

Cons: None so far, I’ve had it for a month and battery life is quite good, even when paired with the HRM and Cadence sensors.

5 Stars Great Product
The Garmin Edge 305 provides excellent value at today’s Amazon prices. Software installation on MAC was quick and easy. It sometimes times out after connecting to USB not transferring the new ride data, but a manual Data Transfer achieves the same result. The Training software could feature better Garmin maps and longterm ride statistic features. I am sure online platforms provide this but I had no time to look into it. Adjusting the cadence sensor was a bit of a problem and required some improvised shims on my crankset to meet the <5mm spec for the sensor to work, but it was not a real obstacle. A 2nd flexible arm for the cadence sensor would allow for more adjustability. All in all a stabile product with no cinks.

4 Stars New to Cycling Computers
I took this out of the box and mounted it to my bicycle using the easy to follow directions. I did not know what to expect at the time but now don’t go anywhere without it! The information it provides is great and has helped me to improve my rides and hikes. It easily connects to the computer and downloads automatically into Garmin Training Center. I also upload the files to Motionbased.com where it is automatically plotted on Google maps that you can email to friends. I haven’t had problems with the battery yet but know that charging shortens the life of any battery. The longest hike I’ve taken using this is 5.5 hours. I have only had one problem with this unit and it happened when I loaded a course from Garmin Training Center to be used with virtual trainer. When I went to upload my information to the computer it would not work. Garmin support was not very helpful. I had to search Google for a solution, the problem was a corrupt course download, once removed everything worked fine.

4 Stars Garmin Edge 305 – very nice package, shame about speed readings
I bought the Edge 305 as I wanted to be able to co-ordinate information about my rides in a more deliberate fashion. I really like the idea of tracking my rides with GPS, getting an accurate reading on elevation and grade both after the ride and real time through the barometric altimeter while being able to capture HR and speed/cadence information. Sounds like all the information you’d need in a single device.

By and large this is pretty much what you get. I’ve already benefited from understanding how HR changes as a function of elevation, grade and speed on some local climbs. I also like the way that you can customize two screens of real time data as you ride – I like to see HR, cadence, speed, %grade, ride time and also lap time and distance on my “home” screen. I put time of day, total miles, average speed, total elevation and calories on the second screen. All easy to do and works as advertised.

Interface with Motion Based and Garmin Training Center seem pretty easy and they both provide useful graphical ways to interrogate your data post-ride.

Now for the con’s. For me the big one is speed readout. Despite having a wheel mounted magnet and speed sensor, it turns out that the Edge actually acquires speed data from GPS as first default. What’s so bad about that? Well, I’ve found when I ride on tree covered roads, my speed will appear to fluctuate quite substantially (+/- 1 to 2mph) despite a constant effort. After coming from a wired cycling computer previously I felt this a step backwards. It turns out that you can disable GPS speed, but only by switching off GPS entirely – not quite what I had in mind. The second small wrinkle is that I have had some quite stupendous grade readouts, mostly in similar conditions. Climbing up Old La Honda and Tunitas Creek Rd on the SF peninsula, I apparently was climbing grades of >20% a few times, clearly a GPS error.

Despite these niggles, I’m happy with the unit and intend to stick with it. I’m getting valuable training information, which is why I bought it in the first place. If I decide I need more accurate speed readings real time, I might yet get a cheap wireless computer to mount next to the Edge. Garmin Edge 305 Bicycle GPS Navigator with Heart Rate Monitor and Speed/Cadence Sensor (Factory Refurbished)

5 Stars Garmin Edge 305 is the shiz nit!
This thing is great! I’ve used heart rate monitors before but I was limited to using them on one bike if I wanted to get my speed as well. With this unit having GPS, I can use it on all my bikes, in the car, on my motorcycles, anywhere. I even use this as a lap timer for my street motorcycles when I go to the track. The interface is simple and the fitness software is a no-brainer, even for me.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Good value for money
Finally,I know exactly the distance I am going!Plus average speed max speed and time on the bicycle. The only non accurate display is the calories burnt.I wear a HRM and my number at the end is by far bigger! So don’t rely on this a lot….Easy to mount and use just a push of only one button.I like the cateye products. They look good and they are easy to use.

5 Stars Easy to install
I had no trouble installing on my bicycle. I compared to other computers and it was right within .2

4 Stars Nice little unit
Got this for my new bike. It’s wired and a breeze to install with the included zip ties. If you’re having issues with the installation go to the cateye website, where there are better instructions than what are included. Only reason I didn’t give this 5 stars is because the unit is smaller than I expected and it’s hard to read the smaller letters while you’re riding. Other than that, it works as advertised.

4 Stars cateye cc-vl810
Very nice little unit, easy to install.I would of gave it 5 stars, if not for the calorie counter being so inaccurate.Go to the website caloriesperhour.com and click on bike calories burned, the cateye is about 50 to 60 % off.

3 Stars You need really good eyes!
Probably this miny computer works well, but it’s too small and difficult to read …can you immagine to stop in the street and try to read the information you need?

The CS300 is a cycling computer and fitness monitor all in one, providing valuable feedback on or off the bike. Wireless speed, distance and heart rate provides for proper pacing during training, or cardio-focused workouts. Calorie expenditure, fitness test, and automatic target zones based on how the body feels each day makes the CS300 the perfect solution for cross-trainers, beginner tri-athletes, and fitness cyclists looking to stay in shape.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Perfect Gift
I bought It for a friend and he is very happy with this Polar Monitor. He said tha is a very good piece of technologies.

5 Stars Great HRM for Cycling and Exercising
I feel I really have to write a review… after all, I felt I took a bit of a gamble on this product given some of the negative previous reviews. Yet this HRM had all the features I wanted – an HRM that can be used to keep track of cycling exercises and could also be used independently of the bike at the gym or when running.

I’ve used this product for about 3 months now. I’ve biked close to 400 miles and have completed over 40 exercises with it (both biking, gym, and running). I am very happy to say that it has functioned flawlessly in all conditions… it has been used:

- in the rain

- in freezing conditions

- in the city

- in the gym

The watch has not frozen or restarted. I was very afraid of this from a previous review.

I have confirmed the distances it has calculated by GPS – and have used it on 2 of my bikes. Each time after setup it worked well.

I have also used this HRM with the optional cadence sensor which has worked fine as well.

So the roundup:

*** PROS

- Has worked flawlessly in all conditions and during all workouts

- Provides all features as documented

- Intuitive and easy to use interface

- Free Polar web software to track exercises and stats

*** CONS (all minor)

- Wireless data transfer can takes time to setup – It took me a while to get it to work with my laptop. I think I spent about an hour futzing with it, but once I got my setup it works every time.

- Polar website is slow and doesn’t export data to CSV or Excel.

- The buttons feel a little cheap (but hey, they work fine).

1 Star Dont waste your money
I received my fourth, yes my forth replacement watch from Polar yesterday, and I’ll be sending it back tomorrow. The first one, the one I bought, worked fine except that the sonic link tones it produced were so low it could take 45 min. before you would get a successful upload to the website. When I called Polar I was told that they had had a problem with a batch of watches and that they would fix it. I sent it in, got a new one sent to me which did the exact same thing. I called them again, explained the problem again and was told they had sent me one of the bad watches by mistake. The third one was fine, for about two weeks. While on a ride the speed stopped displaying. Then it would start again but the cadence would quite. Then the heart rate would go nuts, the speed would quit, the cadence would go nut, the speed would go nuts also, and on and on. I called back, they sent me another one, my fourth, which I received yesterday. I went for a ride this morning, got back, went to upload my data and nothing. Not one chirp from the sonic link. I have had it with this thing. Time to get my money back and find a monitor that is NOT made in China.

2 Stars CS300 Polar Heart Rate With Cadence
I have had this Polar CS300 watch for almost two years now. It does keep track of the vital information after a ride is complete. I use it every weekend all year long. So I get plenty of use out of it. At times it will loose connection with the watch for Heart Rate and Cadence. The numbers will go to Zero. Then all of sudden kick back in. I have replaced the battery in heart rate strap. Didn’t make a difference.

I have been only able to update to the web site once. Polar support stinks. I have contacted then more then a few times. The reason I had purchased this watch was to keep a log of my exercising with out me having to keep a spreadsheet. The weblink software just doesn’t work properly.

The next time I purchase another cycling Heart Rate monitor I will look at other products before considering another Polar product. A lot of the cycling clubs in Miami / Fort Lauderdale area recommending the Garmin products. You get a lot more useful information while you are riding and easier to read when getting bounced around on the road.

5 Stars Polar CS300
Is an excellent HR and trainer, The connection [...] to upload the data stored is very easy and simply, Just place the PC microphone 5 or 6 cms from the back of the Polar, The beep’s are packet and upload one week of exercise in less than 1 minute. Great

User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Beware if you use a heart rate monitor…
Overall, it works good. The cadence, speed and distance all seemed accurate and are generally reliable. But it does have several big limitations:

1) Doesn’t work with a heart rate monitor: The signal from a heart rate monitor interferes with the computer’s wireless reception. So if you are using a heart rate monitor, the computer doesn’t work. Since there’s a good chance you use a heart rate monitor if you are willing to spend this type of money on a bike computer, I consider this a serious limitation.

2) The menu system is definitely not the most user friendly. In terms of when you’re on the bike, most of the info is easily accessible. But you definitely need to break out the manual when you want to adjust any settings.

4 Stars Pretty good computer but some drawbacks
This computer is expensive so my expectations were rather high. What I like about it is that the speed pickup is on the rear wheel so I can use it on my trainer. The cadence capability is also nice. I like the fact this computer is wireless but I got some interference between my Polar monitor and this wireless computer initially that made it impossible to use both the HRM and this unit at the same time. But with my new Polar monitor, that problem has gone away.

I’m not really keen on the display either. I want to see my distance, average speed, actual speed and cadence all at once, but you have to change screens to see this data. Battery life is ok but just. You’ll need to replace batteries on this unit much more quickly than you have to on other Cateye computers and when you do, you’ll have to redo the settings. So keep your instruction book handy because it isn’t a very intuitive setup.

5 Stars Good computer
I put this computer on my new road bike and it’s perfect for “spinning” or riding on the road. It’s probably not good enough for serious riders, but I’m a weekend warrior and I’m riding short rides (30-40 miles). The numbers are big enough to read for the critical functions (time, speed, distance and cadence) and I tend to leave the computer alone while I’m in the saddle. I could see it as a little difficult to press the ‘enter’ button (bottom edge) while riding since it’s close to the bar/neck on my setup. [...]

For “spinning” with a stationary trainer and video, the cadence is really handy (although the LED segments are a little small) since most of the videos say “90 rpm for this segment”. I have an Enduro 8 on my mountain bike and both are very easy to setup, use and get data from while riding and after the ride. The only thing this is missing is the heart rate monitor, but you could get a polar or similar monitor for that if necessary, however I’ve heard that it might cause RF interference with this model (non 2.4Ghz) of bike computer.

Installing the computer on my bike was very easy, the hardest part was mounting the handlebar clip since I didn’t read the instructions so I didn’t extend the clip before trying to screw it tight, otherwise it took about 15 mins, including setting up the screens/units. It was set by default to my tire size (700).

3 Stars Great wireless feature, poor battery, resets easily
Like many of the other reviewers, I had high expectations for this unit. The battery life is relatively short compared with other computers I’ve had in the past. Resetting the computer has become a part of my daily routine, so it isn’t the most reliable device I’ve ever had. If you wear a heart rate monitor, I do not suggest it either. You can reset the signal ID so it doesn’t conflict, but again this has to be part of your daily routine.

If your handlebars are crowded like mine (i.e. brakes and a lamp mount). Be aware that there isn’t a stem mount available so I had to attach the mount itself to my stem using quickties.

5 Stars best bike speedometer
Great product with lots of features. It’s a little tricky to get the cadence monitor attached just right, plan on spending a bit if time with that, but it tracks flawlessly once you do. Instructions are many since it does so much, but again, once you spend a little time with it and it’s set up, you’re set. Very easy to read in any light. Accurate, checked it against my GPS for mph and distance. The display is firmly attached to the handlebar, but nice that it easily detaches from the mount so you don’t have to worry about it when you lock your bike up. Highly recommended.
