Fire your personal trainer and strap on the Garmin Forerunner 405 GPS Watch. This easy-to-use training tool uses GPS satellites for full monitoring and analysis of your workouts, as well as the ability to download wirelessly to your computer. The 405 continuously monitors your time, distance, pace and calories, and stores each of your workouts so you can track your improvement. The GPS functions allow you to store 100 different waypoints in addition to tracking your speed and distance. Race against Garmins Virtual Partner to keep yourself in check, and transfer your data wirelessly to your computer after your workout. The wireless function also lets you share workouts, locations, and courses with a friends 405. Garmins touch bezel eliminates the need for different buttons, so you can focus on your workout instead of fumbling with your watch.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars garmin 405
Easy to use, ability to adjust data fields and customize to your preference.

Very accurate. downloading data with ANT stick to view inofrmation on workouts at Garmin website very helpful.

5 Stars This is a great watch, don’t listen to the haters
I just wanted to add a positive review to help out anyone still wondering about purchasing this watch and still on the fence due to the numerous bad reviews it has received. The watch works great, fits great, and looks normal enough that I can wear it to work and other places when I’m not running. If you’re worried about the reports of the bezel not operating when the watch is wet, I’d say don’t worry about it: you can start and stop the watch with the top button and that’s pretty much all you need to do while you’re running. I lock the bezel 99% of the time, including while I’m running, to prevent accidental taps from changing the mode. It’s as simple as that. If you find yourself needing to tap and swipe the bezel to get more information than current time, distance, and pace *while* you’re running, maybe it’s time to concentrate more on running and less on the gadgets you are using to help you run!

5 Stars Garmin 405
First time using a gps device and couldn’t be happier. It completely liberated my running and I now look forward to my runs and exploring new areas off the beaten path. I would recommend this product to all level of runners. The bezel is great and has not given me any of the problems that others have mentioned.

4 Stars Less control
I bought the Forerunner in late February 2010 and installed the current software and firmware. For the last 6 months I used the 205. There are a lot of reviews written for the Forerunner 405 already, so first a few things I noticed that I haven’t seen mentioned elsewhere, and if you already have a 205 or 305 you might be interested to know:

(1) The 405 no longer has the “other” sport mode. Now it’s just running and biking modes. There’s no fast way to switch between sports like there was on the older models. Switching sports requires navigating through a few levels of menu.

(2) The 205 (and 305) had two display screen pages, and a third page dedicated to the sport mode for each of the running, biking, and “other” sport, and that screen would only be accessible if the watch was in that mode. This was useful for example if you wanted to see speed units in bike mode and pace units in running mode. Now, there are three non sport-specific pages, each of which is available in any sport mode, or disabled. That way, you can have a page with speed units and another page with pace units, but both pages are always there for both modes unless you turn one of them off. This makes things a little less convenient.

(3) The 405 cannot be operated while connected to the charger. Battery power only. Probably not an issue for most people but I suppose someone might want to have the option to have the watch run on external power in a lab setting or maybe a long bike ride using solar power or something. Not with the 405.

(4) There is no user setting to control how the device distributes waypoints, and the way 405 does it is mysterious.

(5) upper and lower pace/speed limits are not available on the fly. This functionality is now only available with pre-programmed (advanced) workouts.

(6) The ANT+ interface is a little bit slower and less user-controllable. Transfers happen automatically and in a background process on your computer called the ANT+ agent. (new) data is downloaded from the watch on to the agent and held there, from where it can be accessed by a third party like Garmin Training Center, Sport tracks, etc. If for some reason the transfer fails (like you walk out of the room while it’s happening), you have the option to force a re-send via a menu on the watch. If you want to send data to the watch such as workouts, courses etc, whatever software you use sends it to the ANT+ agent, where its held in a queue until the next time the watch is nearby to receive it. This stuff simpler in theory but it requires more things to work correctly and you have very little control over what’s happening except to plug or unplug the ANT+ dongle.

I did a 17 mile run yesterday with both the 205 and the 405 on my wrists. The 405 initially locked on to the GPS satellites significantly faster but once the connection is established the reception doesn’t seem that much different. The route I ran included several tunnels that go under the street. When going through these tunnels, the 205 tends to lose signal and register crazy instantaneous paces like 3/mile. This can be annoying if you have it set to keep you in a certain pace zone, and it starts beeping at you to slow down. The 405 also lost signal just about as often, but in different tunnels! But overall, the 405 is more reasonable about it and doesn’t give weird readings when it loses signal. Both watches gave the same distance within 0.1 mile, so no complaint there.

I don’t see the problem with the bezel that a lot of people complain about. It works fine. Sliding your finger on the bezel is only used for scrolling through menus, so unless you’re programming your watch while running it’s not an issue. Otherwise, you tap on the bezel to switch display pages or turn on the backlight, or tap and hold to change modes. Even in the highest sensitivity setting, you’d really have to put your finger on the bezel and hold it there deliberately to enter a menu and do anything drastic. Starting and stopping the timer is done with the side buttons. I don’t even see a need to lock the bezel.

3 Stars Garmin Forerunner 405
I bought this for my boyfriend for his birthday as an update to the older one that he had. He has had a harder time adjusting to this than I thought he would. The dial is a touch bezel and it seems more complicated to work than his old one. He hasn’t said it, but I think he actually liked the older one better.

Train Indoors or Out
In the gym or on the road, FR60 tracks all your workout data, including time, heart rate, calories burned, lap times and averages, and more. FR60 boasts advanced training tools, such as training alarms and Virtual Partner, which lets you race against a virtual training partner to improve your performance.

At the heart of its success is FR60′s wireless ANT+ technology, which allows it to connect to other ANT+ compatible devices, like the included heart rate monitorn and foot pod, or even ANT+ compatible fitness equipment.

Go for Distance
With the ANT+ seamless wireless link, FR60 connects to the optional wireless foot pod, which tracks your distance and speed effortlessly, both indoors and out. Using advanced accelerometer technology, the foot pod collects and sends precise data about your movements, gathering distance and speed data that is 98 percent accurate, right out of the box.

Listen to Your Heart
FR60 also connects wirelessly to a lightweight, flexible digital heart rate monitor, providing instant feedback about how hard you’re working. FR60 continuously tracks heart beats per minute and displays your heart rate zone, so you can monitor and improve your fitness level.

Cross-Train
When paired with an optional speed/cadence sensor, FR60 tracks the speed and distance of your cycling workouts. The wireless speed/cadence sensor attaches securely to your bike and measures your pedaling cadence and wheel speed as you ride. You can even use it to train indoors because the sensor attaches to your rear wheel.

Sync and Share
Once you’ve logged the miles, FR60 automatically transfers data to your PC or Mac, wirelessly when in range. No cables, no hookups. The data is just there, ready for you to analyze, categorize and share through our online community, Garmin Connect.

Pick Your Form Factor
Males and females may train alike, but they have different preferences when it comes to watch styling. So, Garmin offers a men’s and women’s version of FR60 that differs only in size and color options. The men’s model, which weighs 1.6 ounces, comes in black (shown here, 010-00743-10) or red on black. The women’s model, at 1.4 ounces, comes in black or lilac.

What’s in the Box
FR60, heart rate monitor , USB ANT Stick, Foot Pod (accelerometer), quick start manual, and owners manual on disk

4 Stars great training aid
I have been curious about this watch since i first saw it a few weeks ago. I have a garmin 305 that i hate. It takes between 5-10 minutes to locate the satelites before i can start running, so i never use it. I was in a running shop the other day, and they were raving about this unit, so i took a gamble.

The first run it seemed dead-on according to [...]. The second run i brought along the garmin 305 and calibrated it for 1 mile. It was 97 percent accurate with touching a think on the new watch. Color me impressed.

Training for my next 10k will be more fun now.

only one star removed because it’s not as simple as polar, and the manual is terrible.

5 Stars FR60 Review
Have been using product for about a month and very happy especially with upload to Garmin Connect site (although it would be nice to have some more flexability on how to use the data at the site). Nonetheless, works well with indoor cardio (I’m doing Insanity) and running. A+

4 Stars Garmin FR60
I am an amateur runner and this is my first wrist-watch heart rate monitor.

I own an Edge 705 that I use for mountain biking. Lately I decided to start jogging, as part of my biking training, but the 705 is just to bulky to bring it with me on the track.

Looking for a jogging companion, for somebody who already owns an Edge 705, this unit is great since (i) both Edge 705 and FR60 share the same heart rate monitor, so this gives me a spare unit for replacement, and (ii) FR60 can also upload activities to Garmin Connect so all my training information is there, in one place. That is neat.

Both features were strong enough for me to chose this unit without comparing with other brands.

Food pod calibration was done quickly, all I had to do was run for half a mile (with the GPS in hand) and input the precise distance information. From there, speed and distance information provided by this watch are very precise, less than 5% error.

Wireless connection using USB ANT was done quickly and it works perfectly.

Haven’t tested all features but so far I am very satisfied with this product, only 4/5 stars because bike features on the watch do not include odometer!!!.

Quite strange that calories measured by Edge705 and FR60, both logging data from the same HR monitor, during the same activity have great difference. FR60 usually doubles Edge705. I am trying to understand why.

Bottom line, if you already own a Garmin product and you like Garmin Connect website, this is probable the product for you.

2 Stars Garmin to Polar
Excited for my Garmin FR60 HR monitor, but it quickly ended on my first use. I was able to set up most of it without referring to the manual (typical male) which was nice. Nice features for the money. Liked the idea of being able to change the batteries myself without having to send to the manufacturer. During my first workout in the morning, I spent my workout trying to figure out the HR indicator for being below my set zones. Did see warning for being below my zones, but then it disappeared and never came back & I know I was still below my zones. By the afternoon I was working out again but this time with a Polar. I really wanted the garmin to work because I liked the ability to download my workouts to the computer (at this price point).

I called the Garmin store in Chicago because my owners manual got destroyed by my dog. I was told that it would cost $25 to get a new one ($12 to run it off & $10 to mail). Person said to go online; I did, but I still did not find it helpful.

Maybe I gave up too quickly on the Garmin, but I was able to workout with the Polar with no problems.

2 Stars Not easily returnable
This is the first time I have bought something from Amazon which I found was not easily returnable. I was told I have to call seller directly and find out. I do wish Amazon would indicate this on each item which Amazon does not stand behind as it is an important element in placing an order.

Mow my reason for returning. I like the looks and what the watch offers and had full intentions of making it my watch especially for workouts. But when I tried it I found that it does not link up with any machine in the gym. My earlier monitor which was half the price would link up with all exercise machines giving me a continuous heart readout on the machine. This watch too was advertised to do so.

If you want a watch and monitor that will allow all exercise machines to pick your heart rate this is not it. There are many cheaper varieties that do link and give you a continuous readout on the exercise machine.

I will call the Electronica Direct directly tomorrow and hope I can return it. I hope I can.

I had got used to ordering with confidence at Amazon. Now I will hesitate.

I do hope Amazon will take my advice and tell us of the returnability of each item at the time of ordering.

In order to reach your fitness goals, you need to exercise at the right intensity. Designed for goal-oriented runners, the Polar RS200 wrist heart rate monitor helps you to easily and accurately measure your heart rate to help you get to just the right intensity or your exertion level. It’s great for both beginning runners or more experienced runners preparing for competitions. Use the Polar Sports Zones and the Event Countdown Timer to manage your training for that key running event. You can even upload your settings to your running computer and then download your workout files to the Polar Running Coach Web Service for analysis. The RS200 offers up to 16 exercise files with summaries, date and time, and total calorie expenditure. This model features a black and silver face and strap, but it also comes in red.

With the optional S1 foot pod, you’ll be able to take advantage of the RS200′s Speed and Distance functions, such as speed, distance and pace per kmph/mph, target pace (with alarms and differential), trip odometer, run distance, totals for mileage, calories and time training, and summaries for distance and speed/pace.

Heart rate monitoring includes maximum heart rate (fitness test-based and age-based), maximum/average of total exercise and of each lap (up to 99 laps), three target zones, and audible alarms. It also offers such timing features as time of day (12/24-hour display), dual time zone, day and date display, stopwatch, and alarm with snooze. It features an oversized display, easy to manipulate buttons while on the run, and a comfortable WearLink fabric transmitter.

It’s a great choice for using in large groups, where other exercisers might be using wireless training gear that could interfere with your own signal. The RS100′s coded transmission prevents crosstalk with other monitors so you’ll get a personalized workout–even in a class environment. It also includes the following exclusive Polar features:

3 Stars directions?
instructions could be a lot better. especially for those who have never purchasd one before. after several hours of messing w it seems to work fine

4 Stars Nice
Overall a pretty nice, simple little computer. Be warned that it will not look like the picture. The current design doesn’t look as nice and the button is mounted on the top instead of the side. I can’t really complain though, the price was good and it functions really well. The directions could be clearer I guess, but it’s worth the money. Clocking up the miles on the odometer is nice motivation to keep going!

4 Stars simple and straightforward
This product is a great value: it works as advertised, and is simple to install and operate.

4 Stars nice for the price
Can’t complain about this odometer for the price. Easy to install even for a girl. Nice big readout. One problem which I won’t blame on the item, if you wear glasses with poloroid feature, it makes a rainbow affect on the display screen that makes viewing the bottom half of the screen difficult.

5 Stars I Love It
Functions as a odometer, speedometer, trip meter and clock. It also shows maximum speed. In other words, all the basic functions you need.

The device works by counting the number of times a magnet attached to a spoke of the wheel passes a probe. This is converted into speed and distance with the aid of the diameter of the wheel. The diameter can be specified in centimeters.

Instructions were a little stretchy. It took me a while to figure out how to change the mode from km/h to mph and set the diameter of the wheels. A helpful chart is provided in the instruction to convert the specification of your bike tire to centimeter.

Once the device was installed and programmed, everything worked as expected.

4 Stars I’m happy with RS800 but very disappointed with Watchsavings!
I’m happy with RS800 but very disappointed with Watchsavings – the amazon’s partner.

I live in Brazil and I’ve received my order at a friend’s address in USA. He took it to me and I have a problem: I bought a “1 of Polar RS800G3 Bundle ( Includes S3 Stride Sensor), G3 GPS Sensor, Free IRDA” (order # 104-7005327-9628241) and the S3 Stride does not came in the box. I’ve just received the RS800, the GPS Sensor and the IRDA. I need to know what happened. I sent an e-mail to Watchsavings 2 weeks ago and they didn’t answered me. I’m waiting an answer from AMAZON.COM. Tks, HUGO

Polar RS800G3 Bundle ( Includes S3 Stride Sensor), G3 GPS Sensor, Free IRDA

2 Stars Too complicated, and no English quickstart instructions
Bought for my wife’s birthday. She’s very technical (has MBA and MS/CS degrees), and as an endurance athlete she’s become very familiar with Polar and Garmin HRMs and GPS devices over the years – has a Garmin 305, an eTrex Vista, a Brunton GPS, etc.

Well, this device stumped her – she worked with it for an hour and couldn’t get the GPS part to sync with the display … maybe because the quickstart instructions were all in French?

She worked through all the menus and decided that even if she *could* get the thing to function, it was going to be unworkable while riding. And, as delivered it doesn’t have everything it needs for connecting to a computer (that’s optional). So, we returned it.

5 Stars polar 800
Great product. Too bad there is no real marketing to get it out to the public. This is a great training product that can be introduced to the teenagers early on to give them a better training awarness. The transaction went smooth and I was very pleased with the way Amazon brought this together.

Designed for the active endurance athlete who wants to improve his or her performance by planning, monitoring and analyzing training data, the Polar RS400 wrist heart rate monitor helps you to easily and accurately measure your heart rate to help you get to just the right intensity or your exertion level. The RS400 has one of the largest displays in the industry and a fully user-configurable exercise view with countless combinations. And it comes with Polar’s ProTrainer 5 software–the most advanced and dynamic training, planning and analyzing software on the market. Easily prepare a detailed training program and transfer your daily training plan to the RS400 via a wireless infrared connection.

With the optionally available S1 foot pod, you’ll be able to take advantage of the RS400′s Speed and Distance functions, such as speed, distance and pace per kmph/mph, target pace (with alarms and differential), trip odometer, run distance, totals for mileage, calories and time training, and summaries for distance and speed/pace.

It also includes the following exclusive Polar features:

Polar Sport Zones: Polar sport zones provides an easy way to select and monitor the intensity of your training and to follow Polar’s sport zones based training programs. The training is divided into five zones based on percentages of your maximum heart rate: very light (50-60%HRmax), light (60-70% HRmax), moderate (70-80%HRmax), hard (80-90% HRmax) and maximum (90-100% HRmax).

Polar OwnCal: This feature shows your energy expenditure during one exercise session as well as your accumulated kilocalories during several exercise sessions. You can set daily and weekly exercise goals in terms of calorie expenditure with the OwnCal feature. Because the OwnCal tracks both the energy expenditure during one exercise session and the accumulated kilocalories during a longer time e.g. one week, it helps in achieving both short term and long term goals.

Polar OwnZone: This feature guides you through an appropriate warm-up routine and automatically determines a safe and effective exercise heart rate zone–your OwnZone–while taking into account your current physical condition.

Manufacturer’s Warranty
The original purchaser of this heart rate monitor is backed by a limited warranty that states that this product that the product will be free from defects in material or workmanship for two years from the date of purchase.

Note:
Polar heart rate monitors are precision instruments; consumers are not advised to change their own battery. Polar recommends that all service be done by an authorized Polar Service Center which will include a warranty for 90 days on repairs and 6 months for batteries.

About Polar
The first EKG accurate wireless heart rate monitor was invented by Polar back in 1977 as a training tool for the Finnish National Cross Country Ski Team. The concept of “intensity training” by heart rate swept the athletic world in the eighties. By the 1990s, individuals were looking to heart rate monitors not only for performance training needs, but also for achieving everyday fitness goals. Today, the same concept of heart rate training is being used by world-class athletes as well as everyday people trying to lose weight. Polar is the leading brand among consumers, coaches, and personal trainers worldwide and the company is committed to not only producing the best products, but also being the leading educator on the benefits of heart rate based exercise.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars My third Polar and the best yet
I have no problems with the IR transfer others have mentioned, although this has been problematic on my two previous models (one i broke and one I gave to a friend as an excuse to buy this cool new one). My S610 worked well for the first couple of years but then struggled to connect via IR. One thing I will say is steer very clear of that Polar after marker IR device (see my other review on that specifically). It is an absolute overpriced piece of garbage (I usually don’t speak out that strongly against something but after spending $120 on two of them I want to help others not flush good money down the drain). For $20 you can get a Startech model that works flawlessly. I use this monitor 5 days a week and the Polar Precision Performance software that comes with it is solid. I do recommend upgrading to a model that includes this software as their weblink tool is pretty worthless (my wife uses it because her F55 is not supported by the Polar Precision Performance software). Overall though the Polar watches and chest bands are the best.

1 Star Does not come with IR Adapter!!!!!!!
Why do they not clearly state that this product does not come with a IR Adapter. Why provide software for analyzing data when they do not provide a way to transfer the data to the computer.

Have they not heard that IR is out and Bluetooth is in!!!!

3 Stars Excellent watch
Excellent watch, the main problem is that when running in the gym with the Life Fitness machines, the heart rate lectures vary drastically.

5 Stars Perfect for planning workouts and maintaining workout records
Often products that have a multitude of functions and settings can be a little daunting. I was a bit concerned that this heart rate monitor would be too difficult to program, but was really interested in having the ability to program/customize my own workout zones. Much to my delight, the watch is very simple to program, the directions are easily understood, and I am able to transfer data back and forth between my watch and my laptop via the infrared function. (People with computers without infrared readers will need to purchase the optional cable.) I now have records of my workouts and am able to plan my interval training in advance and program the workouts, including 5 zones, into the watch. The only downside is that there is not a design/color option for women. The watch appears to have been designed more for a man than a woman.

5 Stars rs400 watch
This is a very good watch for working out. I have had it only a couple weeks and have yet to realize all the great features it has. I am glad I purchased this watch, I know it will enhance my workouts.

The Polar S625x Heart Rate Monitor goes wherever you gowhether it’s on a 20-mile run, 110-mile ride, or straight up a 14,000-foot peak, with all the information you need to maximize your workout. Not only does the S625x Heart Rate Monitor record heart rate and calories burned, it keeps you in your target heart rate and informs you of your maximum and average heart rates for each lap. The PolarOwn Optimizer determines whether you’ve rested enough between your last workout and your workout to come. Go out for a run knowing your exact speed and distance as you fly along the road or trail with the included pedometer/accelerometer pod. Hook the S625x Monitor up to your computer and get instant performance charting. Cross train on a burly hike as this heart rate monitor watch will record your altitude and ascent, then add optional bike sensors to train for a triathlon.

User Ratings and Reviews

2 Stars Mediocre at best
I have owned my S625X for about 18 months and still struggle with the confusing menus. I have a degree in IT yet the Polar user interface still baffles me! This unit has many design floors such as not being able to delete training files when the memory is full without connecting to your computer – not very convenient if you are not in the same place as your PC! Interference from power lines and the like is a big problem too and the software is again poorly designed and difficult to understand. I’m pretty disappointed with this product overall.

3 Stars A couple of things to keep in mind while running
The running option on this is a bit inaccurate. Keep in mind when you are calibrating this thing on a track, it says “if you are a walker, calibrate it while walking, not running”. Now I see why.

I was doing track intervals to test its accuracy, and it was a lot less accurate at higher speeds than while calibrating it at a 8 min/mile pace. Over a course of a 6 mile run, that in accuracy adds up.

Bottom line on the running option: If you are high tempo runner, calibrate it at a higher tempo. If you are walker, calibrate it accordingly.

The cycling function of it works great (same as the 725 that i’m replacing it with).

The New software is the same, just looks different. (if I’m wrong, please tell me).

5 Stars An Amazing Training Companion

The Polar 625X Running Computer is simply Awesome. I bough this watch about a year ago and I love it.

Once you star using it, you will be so hooked-up to all the useful information you receive during your running, walking, or any kind of training or workout that you embrace, that will never go out again without it.

Its the perfect complement to your desire to get in shape, improve your health or competitive level.

The watch is easy to use, especially if you have owned a Polar Heart Rate Monitor before. This model comes with the Polar food pod (a small device that you install in your shoe laces to measure distance and speed), the transmitter (this is the device with the chest strap), and a computer software that allows you to view, in a graphic representation, important information for each workout (Heart Rate, Pace, Distance, Speed, Temperature, and Elevation).

As soon as you star training and exercising with this magnificent watch, you feel as if you have a coach or a training partner with you.

If you are an athlete, an enthusiastic runner, a hobbyist, or just conscious about your shape and health, you will definitely love this watch. I do. I have owned different HRM from Polar, and without any doubt this is the very best for running.

This powerful running computer enables you to record personal performance, running and cycling data plus training conditions like altitude or temperature, then analyze your performance when you download via Infrared technology directly to your PC using the included Polar Precision Performance (PPP) 4.0 software. You’ll get total feedback on your training sessions by reviewing a variety of graphical summaries, trends and analysis on the computer. I really love the software, I believe the Polar Precision Performance (PPP) 4.0 software alone is well worth the price of this set.

Train and rest in the right balance. The OwnOptimizer test tells you whether you have recovered enough for your next training session. Based on the test, you are provided with a nice-scale description of your personal training status.

The OwnCal feature shows your energy expenditure during one exercise session as well as your accumulated kilocalories during several exercise sessions. It also allows you to set daily and weekly exercise goals in terms of calorie expenditure. The OwnIndex feature will determine your fitness level, track your improvements, and provide motivation. Polar’s OwnCode technology blocks unwanted signals from other heart rate monitors, ensuring disturbance-free transmission of your heart rate data.

Additionally you could add the bike mount (it’s really inexpensive, I got it for about 6 US$), an accessory that will allow you to take advantage of s625x running computer functionality when training in your bike. You install the bike mount on the handlebar and you are ready to wrap your watch around the bike mount. Now you will be able to follow your heart rate as you go on the road with your bike. The s625x offers the ability to enter two different wheel sizes, enabling you to train on two different bikes.

Prepare yourself to atart getting the best results from your training.
