4 Stars Bike Speedometer
Size is larger than its predecessor, but it works fine. Was concerned about installation, which can be touchy, but it went well. Has not needed adjusting in several months use. Aggregates until you reset it, so if you want individual ride statistics, you must remember to reset it at the beginning.

5 Stars good buy
This item was purchased as a gift. Intallation was easy and it has performed as expected ( no problems). It gives all the information needed and seems to be very accurate. I can’t imagine a better bang for the buck.

5 Stars 71+ Old man loves this gadget!
Just got back on a bike since 1951. Bought this amazing cyclocomputer to keep daily record of travel. It is TERRIFIC!! Took about 30 minutes to get it installed to my satisfaction, however think the instruction book has made an error. States that it needs to be “1-2cm” apart. No way! My first rotation of the front tire started registering everything and the distance is at least 3/8″in apart. Everything very easy to view, goes to sleep after 5 minutes of inactivity but wakes right up on the 1st turn of the front tire. Am just a recretional rider and this one will last me to the “last ride”. VERY satisfied w/this purchase. :)

5 Stars Problem-free installation and performance
I’ve had this model in use for about five weeks. Installation was very easy; to set the circumference, I used a GPS and altered the setting until the two units matched speeds. It’s really convenient to have all the info I want with one glance, and the display is crisp and easy to read.

I haven’t experienced any of the problems noted in other Planet Bike computer reviews; my unit ‘remembers’ the trip data indefinitely, and it takes fairly deliberate action to reset the data. Perhaps the units others complained about were touchier than mine. The display doesn’t darken in direct sunlight, but the weather is still fairly cool here in the Chicago suburbs. We’ll see how it acts in hotter weather. The screen will darken for 10 to 20 seconds if I wipe the face with a finger. I have not tried the unit in the rain yet.

I wasn’t thrilled to find that the speed reads out in 1/2 mph increments, instead of tenths, which I was used to on my Cateye. Otherwise, I’m very satisfied with it.

4 Stars Great computer
Protege 5.0 is a eat little computer. Took me like 15 minutes to install, I had plenty of cord from the sensor to the unit, and it works just as described. Nice little size but easy to read. So far its been totally weatherproof too.

I recommend this bike computer for anyone interested.

The Protege 9.0 has a two bike capability, allowing you to set the wheel circumference for two different wheel sizes so you can preset odometer readings for both. A single button on the back of the computer allows you to toggle between bikes. An additional wire/sensor harness is all that is needed to use the computer on two different bikes. The computer itself is removable from the holder it sits in and easily switches between bikes.

About Planet Bike
In November 1996, Planet Bike was founded in Madison, WI. In many ways, Planet Bike began as a social experiment that dedicated itself to doing business in a different way. Instead of being just another company that develops and sells products with profit as its end goal, Planet Bike wanted to help bring about positive change for people, their communities, and the environment.

Despite being a simple machine, the people at Planet Bike have always believed that the bicycle has great potential to help improve the world and the lives of the people in it. From the start, they have embraced an alternative corporate purpose which seeks to help get more people on bicycles by making communities friendlier places for the self-propelled. By donating 25% of company profits to causes that promote and facilitate bicycle usage, Planet Bike hopes to make an impact.

Social experiments aside, Planet Bike was born from the heart of a cyclist with a goal of making innovative, high-quality, and practical bicycle accessories. Simply put, the company strives to design and develop the best bicycle products in the world. In the company’s short 10-year history, it has made important product innovations within the bicycle industry. Advancements include the four-line computer which is now a standard in the industry and the world’s first self-contained HID light. Not bad for a company that 10 years ago started as a one-man operation. Today, while still a small company, Planet Bike continues to evolve and improve its product line with the goal of always striving to build accessories that make it easier for people to ride their bikes. Since 1996, Planet Bike’s financial support of the grassroots bicycle movement has totaled $500,000. By 2010, they have made a goal to donate $1 million to organizations that are dedicated to making America a friendlier place for cyclists.

5 Stars 9 For 9
I like this bike computer. Having the 4-line display is very helpful. It was easy to setup and is easy to operate. I like it!

5 Stars Planet bike Computer
best computer I have found yet. Pircahsed additional computer for my wife. Simple operation. Three pages of info. Fairly accurate except for temperature.

4 Stars Planet Bike Protege 9.0 bike computer
This bike computer works as described. It was very easy to install and use at the same time. 3-modes to choose from, to switch modes, simply click the computer by sliding it forward on the station. MPH, Temp., clock, ODOM., etc. all seems to be working just fine. I gave it a four star because my bike has smaller handle bars than the docking station, so I had to install on the column (mid-section that holds the handle bars to the bike frame) of the handle bar instead AND i will need to make some adjustments to get it to fit on the handle bar. *****MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE MAGNET ABOUT HALF WAY IN BETWEEN THE MODULE READER, ALSO THE TWO DEVICES NEED TO BE VERY CLOSE TOGETHER*** IF YOU DO IT RIGHT THE COMPUTER SHOULD FLASH RIGHT AWAY!@

5 Stars A really great device
I’ve used a few really bad bike computers, so I wasn’t expecting much from this. It really surprised me with its stability, ease of use, and accuracy. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone.

5 Stars Great!
This bike computer is great! It does everything we need it to do, and we couldn’t ask for more.

1 Star No good to me on the ground!
This computer has a nice display, lots of functions, and an easy interface. Setup is moderately good, not as easy a system from sigma. But, hit a pothole in the road, and this thing literally jumps off the bike due to a poor handlebar clip design. Requires duct tape for permanent installation. Overall, no good if it can’t handle the ride.

4 Stars bike computer
Received the bike computer and am well satisfied with it. The only thing neg. it didn’t have a battery installed and the info sait that it did…Alton Hale

4 Stars Nice Easy to read
The display on this computer is large and easy to read with most of the data on display at the same time. If you are looking for a low cost bike computer with lots of functions this one is working well for me.

3 Stars Pretty good
Did not have temperature. Other than that seems good. I use it for time and speed mostly. Has lasted longer than my last one.

5 Stars My favorite cycle computer
I love this computer. I really wanted a 4-line screen for a reasonable price. I already had a wireless one with 4 lines on my other bike, but I like the screen layout on this one so much better. Line 1 has the current speed. Line 2 shows the ride time. Line 3 shows the ride distance. These first three lines are static and never change. Line 4 can cycle through the clock, average speed & max speed, and odometer. So, in one screen, I get all the info I really need. The screen is clear and easy to read. The mount is pretty good too – it comes with three different sized rubber shims so you should be able to get it to fit pretty much any handlebar width. I installed this on a 2008 Fuji Roubaix which I think just has standard-sized road drop handlebars. Installation was pretty easy, although not as easy as a wireless computer since you have to deal with the excess connecting wire. This is really no big deal, and it will pay off long term since you only have to worry about 1 battery, instead of the 2 on a wireless system. Plus, since it’s wired, I never have to worry about interference if I’m riding with friends. Don’t waste your money on the 2-line screens from the more popular brands that are more money. This one does everything you need!

I was surprised to read some of the other drawbacks mentioned in other reviews:

1) the battery connection is not tight, and keeps resetting the settings. I have not had this problem over the 2-3 months I have owned it.

2) The push button makes it too easy to reset the timers. I don’t have a problem with this, but can see how this might be a problem. To change the display screen, you have to push the whole computer forward. A quick push, and Line 4 changes to a different statistic. If you hold it forward during a push for about two secs, it will reset the ride distance and timer. While sitting still, this will never be a problem. But, while riding, I can see how it might be easy to hold it too long, and accidentally reset the timers. On the flip side, I never need to switch the display screen since the main screen has all the facts I need (current speed, ride time, ride distance, clock).

3) Computer falls out of mount after hitting big bumps. I have mine on a road bike, so I’m not really hitting major bumps. I can’t gauge how it would hold on a mountain bike that is hitting all kinds of nasty terrain. But, I will admit that the way the computer sits in the harness is not really well done. Planet Bike should probably redesign this to have some kind of latch that the user has to bend to remove the computer.

Bottom line: I highly recommend this computer.
